Title: Sorting Lily
Character: Lily L Potter
Disclaimer:I own nothing and make no profits from this.
A/N:This won second place at a hih contest for 'a different era' :)
Summery: Everyone has an opinion about where she is going to be sorted. Everyone except her.
Lily can feel people looking at her when she enters the hall. On one side, James is smirking and whispering in his best friend’s ear and on the other Al is observing her quietly. Between them, a whole host of cousins exchange glances and it makes her feel awkward. She knows there must be bets on between them about which house she will be sorted into. As the M names give way to the Ns’ , she wonders what she is worth. A box of chocolate frogs or perhaps even money is on the table. Her mother is sure she will be in Gryffindor with James but her dad is not so sure.
When Lily had asked what that feeling meant he had smiled, picked her up and spin her around before declaring that all the houses are special in their own way and there was no one more special in the world than his Lily. James had mocked her and Al said she would be in Hufflepuff for being too loyal, a right Daddy’s Girl. That was when Teddy smacked Al over the head with one of his Auror training textbooks of doom and informed him his mother was in Hufflepuff, and there was nothing wrong with that. Lily had always liked Teddy, thought herself rather like him and he had been in Ravenclaw so maybe that was where she was meant to end up.
Then again, growing up she had always been closer to Al than James, given James is an independent boy and a right berk to boot in Lily’s eyes. Does it really matter though? Lily thinks she is good at making friends, whether she is supposed to make them or not and that is something Al does yet hardly something people would associate with Slytherin. Scorpius is cool but hardly the friend her mum and dad wanted to host for a night over the holidays.
Even if she is in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, or even joins Al in Slythering there is nothing she can do that will top him being sorted there in the first place. Still, it is her sorting and it will dictate part of the next seven years of her life. That seems like an awfully long time to an eleven year old and she can’t help but feel nervous.
Many won’t realise she is Harry Potter’s daughter just yet. She is sure they just see her as yet another Weasley and that is how she has always felt really. Both her and her brothers are Weasleys with different names, just like Teddy. Eventually, her name is called and the hat twitches as she makes her way up. This is it. It doesn’t really matter; she decides as she sits down and nods to both her brothers. Lion, Raven, Badger or Snake, she will still be Lily.
