Pairing: Pansy Parkinson/Draco Malfoy
Disclaimer:I own nothing.
A/N:for my Pansy table. More ramblings about Pansy's mental state in her 7th year.
Summery: It was like they became a pack of starving hyenas, each trying to pull the other down so that they might escape the judgement of their mad Death Eater professors.
One of the first things that Lucius Malfoy did after managing to narrowly avoid Azkaban, was rip up the marriage contract between his son and Pansy. She was the person that offered Harry Potter up the Dark Lord and that was not an association that the Malfoy family needed when trying to hold on to some sort of position within the new world. At first, Pansy was overcome with rage and resentment because everything about her life had been leading to being Mrs Draco Malfoy and now it was all gone. Her parents frowned and said there will be others but Pansy knew that they saw it all as being her fault. They could never understand what it was like to be a Hogwarts, to be under that sort of pressure. Even in Azkaban the cells locked and prisoners were safe. It wasn’t like that at Hogwarts where teachers tortured students who then slowly turned on each other. It was like they became a pack of starving hyenas, each trying to pull the other down so that they might escape the judgement of their mad Death Eater professors. Some banded together but many felt they could trust no one and turned into glorified scavengers, plotting their way out of danger instead of listening to their teachers. It didn’t take them long to realise what they were being taught was madness anyway, even those like Pansy who welcomed it at the beginning. The atmosphere was suffocating, the tension enough to cause breakdowns and the silence more terrifying than a thousand screams. Draco was marked, proud of it at first too, but even he slowly crumbled under the strain of their new reality. No one realises how much it cost Pansy to survive to lose it all. At first, Pansy was livid when the contract was torn up but then she realised at least she was sane, not carrying any permanent physical scars and had passed her N.E.W.Ts for what they were worth. It was more than could be said for many. Lavender Brown was a pureblood whom many families would love to see their son wedded to given her bloodline and she wasn’t around to be livid about anything anymore. Pansy hadn’t thought about much beyond becoming Draco’s wife growing up but things changed, and after it seemed she did little but think. It was not like she had a job to occupy her time. After all, she did offer up Harry Potter, even if no one ever bothered to ask why.
